Finance Manager – Projects (m/f/*)

The Finance Manager – Projects in Berlin will play a key role in Skateistan’s projects by providing legal and financial support. The Finance Manager – Project will be responsible for managing project financials. In cooperation with the Finance Director, the Finance Manager – Projects will ensure that the legal requirements of Skateistan gGmbH are met while establishing and managing key relationships with partners, the German tax office, other authorities, tax consultants, and banks. The Finance Manager – Projects will also manage internal audits of projects and improvement of internal accounting policies, procedures, and controls both in Germany and with our projects overseas.

Key responsibilities

  • Preparation of regular financial information and reports for management Skateistan gGmbH
  • Being the financial expert on supporting Skateistan´s projects
  • Establish and monitor financial reporting processes to improve Skateistan accountability toward stakeholders

Detailed tasks

  • Collaborating within different expansion project teams such as perform due diligence, reviewing project budgets and financial reports
  • Liaising with Skateistan Skate Schools entities and supporting national Finance Officers with:
    • Review of monthly Skate School Finance reports
    • Identifying training needs of Finance Officers in accounting and reporting skills
    • Performing one internal audit per site, recognizing strengths of the financial information at the schools, as well as notifying weaknesses and following up on improvements
  • Overseeing bookkeeping for Skateistan gGmbH with review and analysis of headquarters monthly accounts, including:
    • Revision of monthly payroll and payroll tax calculations (performed by a tax advisor)
    • Revision, approval, and processing of monthly staff reimbursement
    • Supporting the Finance Director with the preparation of annual budgets for all projects, with direct input from Directors and General Managers in other countries, and on legal aspects regardingGerman nonprofit law
    • Preparation of the annual financial statement and managing the annual audit for Skateistan gGmbH and liaising with auditors regarding audit queries
    • Reaching out to tax and legal experts/advisors whenever gaps are identified within the organization

Skills required

  • Minimum professional and academic qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration or equivalent knowledge gained through practical work experience

Minimum years of experience

  • 3 + years of work experience, either in an accounting firm or as a commercial accountant
  • Experience working for a non-profit or for-profit, in a finance or administration capacity

Competencies and knowledge

  • You are familiar with German accounting regulations
  • Excel is your friend
  • You are fluent in English and in German, additional languages are considered an asset
  • You have good knowledge of internal audit procedures and external audit requirements and have experience in budget preparation
  • You have good knowledge of German tax regulations, especially for non-profit entities
  • Prior experience with various accounting programs, specifically Xero, and with G-Suite is beneficial
  • You are extremely organized, diligent with an eye for detail
  • You enjoy designing solutions whenever you identify a gap
  • You are keen to learn from other departments and understand how finance can add value to the big picture
  • You believe that diversity is essential for creating a positive impact
