Managing Director

B Lab Europe was established in 2013 and since the B Corp movement was established in Europe, it has gained remarkable traction with over 1,100 certified B Corps in the European Union and over 20,000 European users of the B Impact Assessment. The European movement is underpinned by a network of different entities – certified B Corps, country partner representatives and the team of B Lab Europe, which coordinates the strategy, processes and many of the activities of its European country partners.

We are seeing ever growing interest in the B Corp movement in Germany with 60+ B Corps headquartered in Germany and nearly 400 B Corps operating in the German market. In 2022 the community grew by 66% at 5x the rate of 2021, a great acceleration. The small German team is international, creative, hard-working and committed to changing how business operates. The team works closely with the European B Lab team and the German Supervisory Board.

B Lab Germany is responsible for growing a thriving German B Corp community, working with key stakeholders in the ecosystem, delivering the strategy, fostering new partnerships and initiating activities that create value to B Corps and the movement across Germany. We are looking for a

B Lab Germany is looking for a

Managing Director
hybrid, in Fulltime, as soon as possible

to join our team and to lead scaling the B Corp movement across Germany. This is an exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial leader to craft the way forward for this organization and lead a small team of motivated and talented individuals alongside a network of freelancers.

The Managing Director plays an important role in further growing the pipeline of businesses aiming to certify businesses as B Corps, and continuing to build a B Corp community which is strong, collaborative and inspired to stretch further in the impact they generate through their operations. Additionally, the Managing Director has the opportunity to link to key players such as policy makers, business networks, incubators, academics, business schools, impact investment community, standards bodies, large corporates and motivated supportive individuals who have been trained as B Leaders to ensure the B Corp message is being heard widely.

Responsibilities Of Role

  • Grow and manage the existing German B Corp market. Facilitate business use of and engagement with B Lab’s tools, products and certification;
  • Foster the German B Corp community, seeking out opportunities that serve B Corp community and its network well;
  • Execute a strategy and plan for the German market that aligns with the global and European strategy of B Lab and ensure its delivery against key targets as well as the ability to drive forward our global ‘theory of change’ in Germany
  • Set and meet performance targets, bringing and learning from other European counterparts;
  • Represent the German B Corp movement and be the lead advocate for B Corps in Germany
  • Build and manage a diverse and intercultural team who are responsible for the B Corp community activities and for business development functions
  • Ensure the branding messaging, campaigning is on point within German business context;
  • Draw up and report on the budget and take responsibility for fundraising to produce the finance needed to support this; with support from the Operations Team at B Lab Europe;
  • Contribute a German voice to the EU B Corp movement as one of the EU’s Country Partners;
  • Manage the financial, legal, and governance requirements of being a Geschäftsführer of a German gGmbH; with support of B Lab Europe and external legal and tax support team;

Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • You are comfortable in an entrepreneurial and international team and take a hands-on approach;
  • Corporate/for-profit experience or at least a solid understanding of how medium to large businesses operate in Germany and beyond and the ability to speak the business language;
  • Familiarity with business sustainability, circularity and impact measurement, and how business is approaching stakeholder governance;
  • Awareness of key impact reporting frameworks and the evolving landscape of standards and legislation likely to influence disclosure across the value chain;
  • You understand the composition and the culture of business in Germany and understand how the B Corp movement can play a key role in that context;
  • High proficient German speaker with a strong command of English
  • Passionate about the role that business can play in creating a future that benefits all people and the planet;
  • Fast thinking, multi-tasker, not easily phased, who builds personal relationships easily;
  • Comfortable in fast-moving and agile environments;
  • Ready to run a fast-growing organization scaling beyond start-up from an operational and (strategic) standpoint;
  • EU work authorization.

Location

Hybrid working environment. This is a full-time position and will require regular travel across Germany and trips to Amsterdam and other partner regions.

Compensation

EUR 80,000 dependant on experience
