foodwatch is a European civil society organisation (CSO) for a sustainable and democratic food system. With offices in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Vienna, we fight for the right to safe and healthy food and against fraud and misleading practices of companies. We want laws that are not dictated by the agri-food industry lobby but benefit everyone and are consistently enforced by governments and authorities. foodwatch is an independent counter-power, and do not accept any funding from governments, the food industry, or the EU.

Your future tasks

With your strong economic background, you ensure the development and coordination of the foodwatch research and the project on “healthy food for all: true cost, fair prices and affordability” under the supervision of the Executive Director of foodwatch France and in close collaboration with the international foodwatch team.

  • Your goal is to gain an overview of available policies and scientific and economic analyses: identify knowledge gaps and commission research from external researchers as relevant.
  • Conduct a context analysis, issue and actors mapping, with recommendations for potential points of intervention for foodwatch.
  • Translate the findings from the scientific and economic sphere into our organisation. Together we develop a clear short and mid-term strategy based on your findings and propose campaign ideas that contribute to the overall project goal.
  • Ensure at international foodwatch level the vision and consistency of the project and the exchange of best practices.
  • Start the project with a focus on France, ensuring transferability of the results and keeping in mind the wide scope of the European Union (especially Austria, Brussels, Germany, Netherlands)
  • Ensure adequate and effective liaison and coordination with relevant external actors – economists, sociologists, researchers, experts, NGOs, etc.
  • Keep an overview of the allocated budget and resources for this project.

Your profile

  • You have a strong academic background in economics and experience in scientific-based research.
  • You are experienced in a role relevant for this position, i.e. as a science journalist or in a relevant research function.
  • You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills combined with a strategic thinking approach on how to put research into action.
  • Your ability for excellent team collaboration and your communicative skills enables you to moderate different perspectives and find pragmatic solutions.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload effectively, including managing competing demands, prioritisation and maintaining high levels of accuracy, attention to detail and output.
  • Your proactive attitude, curiosity, and willingness to learn lets you thrive in an agile work environment.
  • You are fluent in English, both written and oral. Your reading and speaking level in French is very good, knowledge of German is an additional asset.
  • You have a willingness and openness to developing skills around campaigning, advocacy, and activism, ideally you gained experience in these fields already.
  • You are willing to undertake business trips to our various offices at different locations (approx. 6-8 times a year).
